INSTALLATION GUIDE

Chemical Earthing Installation Process

A clear site guide for project teams. All work must follow the approved drawing, method statement, safety procedure and project specification.

SN Engineering chemical earthing electrode

Before Installation

Safety: Isolate relevant electrical systems, obtain permits, identify underground services, use qualified personnel and appropriate PPE. Do not use this general guide as a substitute for an approved site-specific method statement.

Review Documents

Approved drawing, soil report, fault-current study, BOQ, datasheet and inspection plan.

Confirm Materials

Electrode, EBF compound, chamber, conductor, clamps/test link, labels and test instruments.

Mark the Location

Confirm accessibility, separation, routing and absence of buried utilities before excavation.

Step-by-Step Installation

1

Site Assessment

Confirm the approved location, soil conditions, access, underground services and installation constraints.

2

Pit or Bore Preparation

Prepare the pit/bore to the depth and diameter shown on the approved design. Keep excavated material controlled and the area barricaded.

3

Electrode Positioning

Place the selected electrode vertically and centrally. Protect the terminal and prevent damage to coatings or connections.

4

Backfill Placement

Place EBF compound uniformly around the electrode according to the approved method and manufacturer’s instructions. Avoid voids and contamination.

5

Connection

Connect the specified earthing conductor using compatible hardware. Ensure clean contact surfaces, correct tightening and corrosion protection.

6

Inspection Chamber

Install the chamber so that the test point remains safe, labelled, accessible and protected from traffic or water ingress as required.

7

Testing

Carry out visual inspection, continuity checks and earth-resistance testing using the approved test method and calibrated instrument.

8

Documentation

Record location, model, dimensions, conductor details, test readings, instrument ID, date, weather/soil conditions and photographs.

Typical Installation Drawing

The drawing is schematic only. Depth, bore diameter, conductor size, chamber rating, spacing and backfill quantity must be taken from the approved project design.

Inspection & Test Checklist

LocationMatches approved drawing and is safely accessible.
ElectrodeCorrect model, material, dimensions and undamaged condition verified.
ConnectionCompatible clamp/test link, secure termination and conductor identification.
ChamberCorrect level, cover rating, drainage/protection and clear access.
Test resultMeasured using the approved method and compared with the project acceptance criterion.
RecordsPhotos, test sheet, instrument calibration details and as-built location captured.

Maintenance Guidance

Periodic Inspection

Check chamber condition, labelling, conductor integrity, corrosion and loose connections at the project-defined interval.

Resistance Testing

Retest according to the maintenance plan and after major electrical, civil or environmental changes.

Corrective Action

Investigate abnormal readings through site assessment and approved engineering review rather than adding water or chemicals without authorisation.
